Biofiltration<\/strong><\/p>\n

Most biofilters consist of a container made of concrete or modular walls, filled with biofilter materials (bark, root wood or coconut fibre). These\u00a0 filter materials lie on a grid on top of a pressure chamber containing the odour-contaminated air. The upward pressure takes the air through the filter, leaving the odour in the moist of the filter material When higher degree of odour removal is necessary and outcome has to be guaranteed often a closed system in specially designed metal containers making use of the down-flow system is recommended.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Micro-organisms in the filter materials degrade the organic substances into carbon dioxide and water.<\/p>\n

Physicochemical filtration<\/strong><\/p>\n

The physicochemical air filter makes use of microporous, odour-absorbing granules, causing an irreversible chemical reaction with these odours. For instance, bad smells as a result of H2<\/sub>S and mercaptan gas from sewage pumping-stations and pump sumps penetrate the pores of the filter granules and cause chemical oxidation. The German firm Uppenkamp has developed a method that measures based on the European standard EN 13725 and is significantly cheaper. The collected air is analyzed and tested within 6-8 hours. The laboratory is accredited according to DIN EN ISO \/ IEC 17025 for “Emission Protection\u201d. Odour Balance\u00a9 is the exclusive representative of Uppenkamp in the Netherlands.
